Primal Food

What struck me most about the Primal nutrition philosophy was not the fact that the human body has evolved over several million years but that it’s only been in the past few thousand that we’ve been farming and consuming grains. Industrialized foods, which make up a large portion of the typical western diet, are incredibly new to us and we simply never evolved to consume these foods, period. So, it stands to reason that removing grains and processed foods from our diets might have some beneficial effects.

Food in my opinion is the most important aspect of the Primal Lifestyle. It sets you up for success in all the other Primal aspects. It goes without saying that when we eat better we do everything else better as well – exercise, work, sleep, play – without it we cease to exist and with too much of it or too much of the wrong thing, our health is compromised (and we’ll probably cease to exist earlier than planned). We should “EAT to LIVE not LIVE to EAT” as the saying goes.

A large majority of the so-called experts, (governments, researchers and health practitioners) preach conventional wisdom to us, yet, obesity, diabetes and other modern diseases appear to be on the rise. The experts tell us to eat less and less fat and more and more refined carbohydrates and yet western societies are getting fatter and fatter and sicker and sicker.

Primal Food Tips:

  • if it had to go through an industrial process don’t touch it/limit it
  • eat protein from sources that lived and had a face
  • eat lots of plants – veggies, fruits, herbs
  • eat some dairy (with the fat)
  • eat fat but not the processed kind (crisco, canola are not good)
  • eat raw nuts and seeds
